St. Paul’s United Church

Worship & Music

If you are a seeker looking for ways to celebrate the Creator’s presence in and within your life, we invite you to come and experience life at St. Paul’s. Our times together are filled with many opportunities for inspiration through music, corporate and private prayer, proclamation, and opportunities to engage in thought-provoking discussions about being a Christian in a twenty-first-century context. As a community, St. Paul’s is dedicated to providing opportunities for all age groups to grow in the Spirit.

We hope that you will come and experience God’s presence with us.

Music

The musical life of St Paul’s is very much alive and well!
Whether you want to join an ensemble or simply listen to good music, join us.

The Choir

St. Paul’s choir rehearsals take place Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. If you would like to join our choir, please come on out and get involved. We would love to have you. The choir sings anthems most Sundays throughout the year (not summer months) and help lead congregational hymn singing. If you would like more information or have specific questions, please contact me via email at: Warwick.victoria130@gmail.com

St. Paul’s Bell A’Peal Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir rehearses Mondays at 5:30 in the Upper Room at St Paul’s. If you are keen to try ringing handbells, please contact me at Warwick.victoria130@gmail.com . The choir rings a few Sundays throughout the year in the worship service at St Paul’s. We also ring at community events and for the residents at various retirement homes in the area.

Director of Music

Victoria’s love of music is not limited to her role as Music Director at St Paul’s United Church. This has provided varied and interesting opportunities to interact with the congregation and the larger Midland community. Having been born and raised here, she is delighted to give back in this way.
In addition to being Music Director at St. Paul’s United Church, she is also Director of the Bell A’Peal Handbell Choir and the Georgian Bay Ringmasters Handchime Choir of St Paul’s, Director of the Bay Sound Children’s Choir and Bay Sound VIVO Choir, music and choir Director of the Bay Sound Singers (formerly Serenata) and also Director of the Midland Y’s Men’s Music Festival.

St Paul’s United Choir

St Paul’s United Church Choir is a vital part of our worship service.  In addition to skillfully leading congregational hymn singing and service responses, the choir also enjoys preparing and sharing annual Christmas cantatas with live instrumental guest musicians.  They also enjoy taking part in community fundraising concerts and participating in the local Y’s Men’s Music Festival.  Normally, the choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 but due to COVID-19, rehearsals are currently suspended. Our Music Director is coordinating virtual choral performances with the St Paul’s and Friends Virtual Choir for on-line services.

Our Organ

The organ in St Paul’s sanctuary was originally installed in 1965 by Keats Geisler Organ Works. In 2010 a complete overhaul of both the organ and the chancel was undertaken. Phoenix Organs designed and built the current “hybrid” organ including a 4 manual console and full pedal board as well as repositioning the pipes and installing speakers to produce the electronically sampled sounds. The organ was rededicated at a special service in Spring of 2011.

Grand Piano

St Paul’s is grateful to the McCullough family for donating this exquisite piano in memory of Phyllis McCullough, a talented musician and music teacher who contributed significantly to the music of St Paul’s. The piano is a 1987, 5’7” Baldwin Grand purchased from the Royal Conservatory of Music.  This instrument elevates worship and is enjoyed at numerous concerts in our worship space.

Bell A’Peal
Handbell Choir

Our Handbell Choir continues to thrive and has just started to practice in person.  The choir now numbers 13 ringers and would normally meet at St Paul’s twice a week to hone our skills. During the past year with Covid things have been suspended, in years past we rang a number of times at locations such as King Place, Bayfield House, Hillcrest, The Villa, Waypoint and during worship at St Paul’s. We also rang for Midland’s Tree Lighting ceremony and we were delighted and very excited to be the guest performers with the Georgian Bay Brass at their Christmas concert – this engagement included ringing a piece with select brass members entitled “Antiphon” which was a highlight for us!

Georgian Bay Ringmasters
Handchime Choir

A lively group of young handchime ringers (ages 8 to 14), the Georgian Bay Ringmasters enhance our worship services with their beautiful, unique sound. They occasionally join with the Bell A’Peal Handbell Choir to bring us some magical sacred music selections.
