St. Paul’s United Church

Meet Our Staff

Our Minister- the Rev. Kirsty Hunter

Rev Kirsty is known for her laugh.  Her faith has seen her through many challenges and joys.
She grew up in Alberta playing in the mountains, attending Stampede, and looking at the endless sky.
She attended university in Calgary and earned a BA in Archaeology.  She brought her curiosity
and deep love of discovery to biblical studies when she earned an M.Div at Emmanuel College.
Rev Kirsty has worked in several small rural churches and has learned a lot about farming, community, and
faith from the people she has served with. After growing up in an inner city community in Calgary
she is excited to be part of the ministry at St. Paul’s United Church which
seems like a wonderful blend of city and rural.
Two of her most influential teachers were in drama and she brings an improvisational approach to her ministry…
“Yes! And how can I help?”  She would love to hear your ideas, your hopes, your schemes, and your feedback.
Find her at Bible study, community events, Sunday worship, by email, text, or phone.

Rebecca leads the Children (Discovery Kids) and Youth Programs at St. Paul’s. Each Sunday of the year, she offers enriching and faith-based lessons using stories, art, music and dance for the Discovery Kids. She also facilitates opportunities for the children to gather outside of church, including Camp Awesome (regional United Church camp program) and outdoor adventures. Once per month, she engages the youth in meaningful topics including mental health, anti-racism, LGBTQ+ advocacy, social justice, community outreach and outdoor activities. Her position at St. Paul’s is a great fit for her because it combines her passion for developing faith and spirituality in young people with her commitment to building a better world through education.

Rebecca has a degree in Religious Studies from St. Jerome’s University at the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto.  She is also part of the leadership team from Camp Micah, an Ecumenical High School Leadership Camp for Social Justice.

Technical Services Coordinator

Glenn Erwin

Glenn’s interest in technology began at a young age. He dismantled his father’s expensive Swiss watch to see how it worked and that was the last time it worked. He grew up in Toronto. In school, he was a member of the drama club as sound man, lighting technician and stage manager on different productions.  In his late teens, he moved to North Western Ontario to work in the lumber mills as a shift Supervisor.  As the industry started adopting computers, he became the “go to person” because of his knowledge and love of emerging technology. After 35 years in the industry, Glenn moved to Midland, Ontario and worked as a teacher’s aid in the Adult Learning Centres and taught industrial health and safety courses for Georgian College. For the last 6 years he has been the Audiovisual Technician for The Midland Cultural Centre. In 2019 Glenn expanded on his love of people and media by joining the team at St. Paul’s United Church as Technical Services Coordinator.

New Office Administrator

John Craig

John originally comes from a technology background with training in software development. He worked as a computer programmer in his early career and wrote code for the optometry industry. More recently, John has worked as the General Manager for a technology operation in Waterloo, and as the Office Manager for a manufacturing company here in Midland. As well, John ran the family farm, built his own house and farm store, and helped run the family business of historic walking tours telling ghost stories in Old Quebec City.

Originally from Montreal John moved to Guelph with his family as a part of the “Quebec exodus” in the 1970s. He has lived in Guelph, Cambridge and Collingwood, and now calls Midland home.

John has a passion for the restoration of vintage items and has said “why make it new, when you have a ‘built-resource’ to work with”.

John is delighted to be a part of the Community here at St. Paul’s.
