Dr. Peter Kugba-Nyande of Wyevale-Waverly United Church approached the Outreach Committee of St. Paul's with a dream to reconstruct the elementary school in his home community in Sierra Leone which was totally destroyed during the years of conflict - 1991-2002. The dream was simple: to construct a six room school for 350 students at a cost of less that $30,000 in Canadian currency with the local people in the village donating their time and labour in clearing land, making 9000 sun baked bricks by hand and volunteering sweat equity to the project. Today, through the support of members and friends of St. Paul's and other groups in this community and other United Churches in Simcoe Presbytery, Peter's dream is emerging in the village. At this point about 60% of the financial objective to build and equip the school has been reached. Many thanks to all who have joined in the dream to enrich the lives and education for these children and the community of Bunumbu, Sierra Leone. You may still support this project through your prayers and contributions payable to St. Paul's United Church - Sierra Leone School Project. View Album |
